Improved IVF Success Rate

IVF and acupuncture in Currumbin.

A full IVF cycle takes about four to six weeks from the first injection to embryo transfer. After that, you wait two more weeks for the pregnancy blood test. During this time, hormone levels swing up and down, early-morning scans fill the calendar, and sleep often breaks. Weekly acupuncture sessions keep the nervous system steady, lower cortisol, and guide more blood to the uterus. I see high cortisol as a barrier to fertilty as it means the body is in fight or flight. Nature is wise and it wouldn't be wise to fall pregnant during a mass migration (runners) or war zone (executive level type stress). Its the same system that is activated.

IVF Process Step-by-Step

The IVF stages in plain words.

The prep phase lasts one to four weeks. Your team reviews blood tests, scans the ovaries and confirms the protocol.
Ovarian stimulation follows for eight to twelve days with daily FSH or HMG injections and regular monitoring scans.
When the lead follicles reach size, you take a trigger shot. Egg retrieval is scheduled 34–36 hours later.
Eggs meet sperm in the lab. Embryos grow for three to five days (sometimes six) before one —or in rare cases, two—are placed in the uterus.
The last step is the luteal phase. You use progesterone support and wait 9–14 days for the blood test that shows whether the embryo has implanted.

Why acupuncture helps along the way.

It increases blood flow to the ovaries and to the lining of the uterus, giving the endometrium more oxygen and nutrients.
Research shows that needling can influence fertility hormones, which helps cycles stay regular and ovulation remain clear.
IVF is stressful, and acupuncture sessions lower anxiety, cut cortisol, and let the body rest while it waits for implantation.

A schedule that fits the cycle.

Visit once a week during stimulation to keep hormones on course.
Book one treatment in the twenty-four hours before embryo transfer to prepare the uterus.
Come back in the twenty-four hours after transfer to settle cramps and nerves.
If pregnancy is confirmed, visit every second week through the first trimester to ease nausea and early spotting.

What happens in the clinic.

A first visit lasts about one and a half hours. We talk through past IVF rounds, medication times, and sleep patterns. Pulse and tongue checks guide the point plan. Four to six fine needles rest in the hands, feet, or lower legs, and we never needle the abdomen on transfer day. Warm moxa or a gentle heat lamp soothes the belly. Tiny ear seeds stay in place so you can press a calm point at home. Before you leave, we share everyday tips such as eating warm breakfasts, keeping steady protein, and taking a quiet walk after dinner.

Chinese-medicine herbs.

During stimulation, a mild tea made from dang gui, bai shao, and Chinese yam supports blood building.
After transfer, we switch to gentle nourishers and avoid strong moving herbs until the heartbeat scan.

Local story.

Meg, who lives in Currumbin Waters, had two unsuccessful rounds. For round three, she added eight acupuncture visits. Weekly sessions ran through stimulation, and she came in both before and after embryo transfer on the same day. Two weeks later, her blood test was positive. Fortnightly visits carried her through the first trimester, and she is now thirty-one weeks along. She still presses her ear seed whenever motorway traffic slows.

Questions clients ask.

Does acupuncture hurt?
The needles are as thin as a hair. Most people feel a quick tap or nothing at all.

How soon will I notice change?
Many clients sleep better and feel calmer after two visits.

Can my partner have treatment too?

Yes. Lower sperm quality equals higher misscarriage rates.

Is acupuncture safe with IVF drugs?
Yes. I have with thousands of IVF patients in my time as an acupuncturist.

Home tips.
Keep the lower back warm. Breathe slowly before bed, and walk after meals to aid blood flow.
